Pessimism - Protection of the Ego (discuss)

Pessimism: Being Pessimistic/Negative about a Thing or Occurrence places that Thing/Occurrence outside of the Ego. It is used as a protection against criticism and negative development.

Optimism: Being Optimistic about a Thing/Occurrence involves incorporating the things One likes about Oneself into a thing or Occurrence. When it gets criticized or develops in a negative fashion it reflects directly on the Ego.

Optimism is opening oneself up, allowing sharing of the Thing/Occurrence and thus the facets/traits One likes most about Oneself and opening up to possible annihilation and criticism of those facets. On the contrary, Pessimism allows deliberate Alienation. One never has to share Oneself by being Pessimistic.

Pessimism allows the possibility that the Thing/Occurrence will turn out to be/develop [in a ] Positive [fashion]. If it does, One will immediately let it reflect on the Ego, but is not able to share the fact that One has taken credit for it, as that is not socially appropriate.
If it doesn't, One has protected the Ego beforehand and is not forced to let it reflect on the Ego and One is thus never forced to take credit for it.

Conclusion:
Optimism is for the powerful of Mind and strong at Heart. Pessimism is for the weakened of Mind and fearful at Heart.

Discuss my theory!

A hello and a shameless plug!

Hi!

Firstly I would like to say hello and introduce myself and secondly I would like to introduce my new Tribe, http://tribes.tribe.net/moneyexpert

Sorry if this seems like advertising, I suppose it is in a way but I am trying to spread the word in popular Tribes, here’s the basics of the Tribe, if you want to join I’d love to have you – if not, never mind and I’m sorry to have bothered you!

In these times negative equity, high mortgage rates, low incomes and of spam email and con artists promising to make you a millionaire it’s time to fight back, not at the con artists but at the institutions that try to take our hard-earned money. The banks, service providers and any other institution that tries to make a profit from YOU.

Who am I? I’m a lover of money, but who isn’t? More importantly I’m a terms and conditions addict and a professional loophole spotter and I’m here enable my fellow consumers to fight against the industries.

Being good with money isn’t about being tight with money and it’s not just for those who are penniless. Being good with money is a skill that we are rapidly losing in these modern times.

We make money decisions everyday, how we get to work, how we finance our home, to go to the cinema or to wait to rent or buy on DVD. The way you need to think is “Every single time I spend my money, I have an opportunity to save some money”.

Many people simply live outside their income, it’s a slippery slope and easy to get into a position where you have contracted yourself to live outside your means.

The concept of this tribe is to band together to share money saving ideas, ways to be a smart consumer. My aim is to help you make the money you currently have go further, just by showing you a better way to use it. Money education is something the world desperately needs.

This kind of money regime will require some work on your behalf but it is worthwhile, the kind of money you save could be equivalent to a 10, 20 or even 30% pay rise.

This is no scam, just a sharing of information. YOU WILL NEVER BE ASKED FOR PERSONAL FINANCIAL DETAILS.

If you take a high power rifle and fire a bullet horizontally down range, the bullet will travel a distance and eventually hit the ground. The time it takes for the bullet trajectory to fall to the ground, (no matter how powerful the rifle) is the same time it takes for the bullet to just fall to the ground without being fired from the gun. There are no aerodynamics on the projectile to keep it aloft.

With Earth Day seems all the environmentalists are active, My sister-in-law told me to watch Sara Snow on TV and she is really into the green thing. She had a video of the new Hearst building that has the most environment friendly featues, the cleanest indoor air and an all organic cafeteria for their 2000 employees. Some magazine had a full page of the most green cities in the US. She said they are trying to get the government to pass a law to make electronics manufacturers have to recycle all their old machines. One city had an electronics recycle day and hundreds of people came and brought their old tv's, computers, cell phones.
Is this Greening the wave of the future? What do you know about it?

According to Wikipedia (which we all know is *always* factually accurate :-)), after graduating from high school, Kelly Clarkson moved from her homestate of Texas to Hollywood, in pursuit of an acting career. She played small parts in "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," "That 70s Show," and a film called "Issues 101."

After just four months in Hollywood, her apartment burned down, so she returned to Texas and worked at a bunch of crappy low-paying jobs...until she auditioned for American Idol and became a huge star (and one of my favorite singers).

sex bracelets

okay, remember those black rubber bracelets that Madonna wore and everyone else did as well...
Well now they are in colors and they are all the rage. the bracelets have been banned from schools because of their "hidden sex meanings"

here's the jig...

This social phenomenon involves "snapping" the bracelet off the wearer, enabling the snapper to earn a sexual favor from the snappee based on the color of the snapped off bracelet.
The colors each have a coded meaning as follows:

Yellow - indicates the wearer is willing to HUG
Orange - indicates the wearer is willing to KISS

Purple - indicates the wearer is willing to KISS (in EXTREME snapping, it indicates a willingness for anal sex)
Red - indicates the wearer is willing to perform a LAP DANCE (EXTREME snapping - oral sex performed on a girl)
Green - indicates that ORAL SEX can be performed on a girl
Clear - indicates a willingness to do "whatever the snapper wants"
Blue - indicates ORAL SEX performed on a guy
Black - indicates that the wearer will have regular "missionary" sex
White - indicates the wearer will "FLASH" what they have
Glittery Yellow - indicates HUGGING and KISSING is acceptable

Snap!

A very BIG pop, about 200 decibles. It takes a couple of minutes to detonate.
Did you know?...The earliest known illustration of a man using a condom during sexual intercourse is painted on the wall of a cave in France. It is dated between 12,000 and 15,000 years old.

Did you know?...A medical study conducted in Pennsylvania showed that people who have sex once or twice a week have their immune systems boosted slightly.

Did you know?...A U.S. News and World Report poll found 50 percent agree that it is better to remain a virgin until you marry, and 39 percent felt it's better to have sex with a few different partners before settling down to marry.

Did you know?... During the 1920s, it was believed that jazz music caused one to permanately lose his sexual inhibitions. It was often banned in many cities. One private company went as far as to sell the elites "jazz proof" furniture.

Did you know?...All Humans Are 99.9% Genetically Identical and 98.4% of human genes are the same as the genes of a chimpanzee
Did you know?..."Venus observa" is the technical term for the "missionary position."

Did you know?... Sex is a beauty treatment. Scientific tests find that when women make love they produce amounts of the hormone estrogen, which makes hair shine and skin smooth.

Did you know?...Gentle, relaxed lovemaking reduces your chances of suffering dermatitis, skin rashes and blemishes. The sweat produced cleanses the pores and makes your skin glow.

Did you know?...Sex is one of the safest sports you can take up(if you use a condom). It stretches and tones up just about every muscle in the body. It's more enjoyable than swimming 20 laps, and you don't need special sneakers!

Did you know?...Sex is an instant cure for mild depression. It releases endorphins into the bloodstream, producing a sense of euphoria and leaving you with a feeling of well-being.

Did you know?...The more sex you have, the more you will be offered. The sexually active body gives off greater quantities of chemicals called pheromones. These subtle sex perfumes drive the opposite sex crazy!

Did you know?...Sex is the safest tranquilizer in the world. IT IS 10 TIMES MORE EFFECTIVE THAN VALIUM.

Did you know?... Kissing each day will keep the dentist away. Kissing encourages saliva to wash food from the teeth and lowers the level of the acid that causes decay, preventing plaque build-up.

Did you know?...Sex actually relieves headaches. A lovemaking session can release the tension that restricts blood vessels in the brain.

Did you know?...A lot of lovemaking can unblock a stuffy nose. Sex is a natural antihistamine. It can help combat asthma and hay fever.

The origin of the word "SHIT"

Ever wonder where the word "shit" comes from. Well here it is:

Certain types of manure used to be transported (as everything was back then) by ship. In dry form it weighs a lot less, but once water (at sea) hit it. It not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by-product is methane gas.

As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen; methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern. BOOOOM!

Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was discovered what was happening.

After that, the bundles of manure where always stamped with the term "S.H.I.T" on them which meant to the sailors to "Ship High In Transit." In other words, high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane.

Bet you didn't know that one.

Snob...

The word 'Snob' originates from 18th century England, when the landed gentry began to provide a half-assed education for the young sons of their laborers so that they may be intelligent enough to travel and conduct business on their behalf. When these young men signed a document, by law they would be required to pen the words 'Without Nobility' below their names, but their Masters found this to be detrimental and trained their protege's to substitute the Latin phrase 'Sine Nobilitatis', which sounded prettier and more cultured. Human laziness took it's course and 'Sine nobilitatis ' soon became S.Nob. and 'Snob' to describe a person who looks down their nose at those of their own class because they have aquired some small trapping of a higher estate...like being able to write their name. In 'Jude the Obscure', Jude, a self-educated farmboy endures the abuse of second and third generation 'snobs' when he goes to the university.

The unsoothable crying pattern in new born babies that is commonly known as “colic” rarely has anything to do with gastrointestinal problems.
Also the same type of heightened unsoothable crying in the first few months is seen in other organisms such as monkeys.
(ie it’s not a milk allergy and bad gas that is making them cry)

butter vs. margarine

I came across this today....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter?
Read on to the end...gets very interesting!
Both have the same amount of calories. Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only
because they are added!
Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.
And now, for Margarine...
* Very high in trans fatty acids.
* Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
* Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol)
* Lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol).
* Increases the risk of cancers by up to five fold...
* Lowers quality of breast milk...
* Decreases immune response...
* Decreases insulin response.
* And here is the most disturbing fact....
HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC...
This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).
YOU can try this yourself: purchase a tub of margarine and leave it inyour garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things: no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go
near it (that should tell you something) ... it does not rot or smell
differently because it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on
it...even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not a find a home to grow.
Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?
Apple trees grown for fruit are clones. If you grow apple trees from seed, you get practically inedible apples, and the fruit varies a lot even within the tree. Johnny Appleseed didn't start the apple nursery trade to produce a wholesome, crunchy fruit. Oh, no, Johnny Appleseed grew apple trees so people on the frontier would have easy access to booze--cider and applejack, which can be made out of any old crappy apple.
Cheers!
The razor in the candy apple story or whatever that story is is false. In history, there are very few known cases of tainted holloween candy and so far all of them have turned out to be candy poinsoned by a relative of the child or by someone with a specific target in mind. So let your kids have fun with their candy this year!
unisexual salamanders
Amazing as it may seem, single sex lineages do exist within the animal kingdom.Among them are the all female triploid forms of Salamander Ambystoma.tremblayi and Ambystoma.platineum. These female salamanders mate with males of closely related species only to stimulate egg development. The males contibute no genes, and the offspring are all female. Without the addition of the male genes, most single sex lineages vanish in an evolutionary wink,between 10,000 to 100,000 years. But North Americas all female salamanders have hung on for 4 million years.
Did you know if spray a ton of crystal clear over an image, let it dry, and then apply a thin coat of gum arabic, let it dry, and then blow dry it will crackle like an old painting. Then you can crystal clear it again and then rub in dark oil paint to provide a patina.
Pronouncing "Los Angeles"
There was once heated debate over how to pronounce “Los Angeles.” Although the name is now commonly pronounced “Loss An-je-les,” its original Spanish pronunciation is “Loce Ahng-hail-ais.” Non-Spanish speaking Angelenos seemed to prefer the harder-sounding anglicized version. During the 1920s and 1930s, the Los Angeles Times vigorously defended the Spanish pronunciation and printed directly below its editorial page masthead, “LOS ANGELES (Loce Ahng hail ais).” When the U.S. Geographic Board recognized the anglicized version in 1934, the Times was outraged, declaring that the pronunciation made the city “sound like some brand of fruit preserve.” The newspaper further suggested that Easterners plotted to deprive the West Coast of its softer-sounding Spanish names, proposing that California would next have to tolerate such place names as "Sandy Ego," "San Joce," and "San Jokkin." In all fairness, however, the Times did not express the same distain for the prevalent pronunciation of San Pedro as “San Pee-dro” rather than the Spanish “San Pey-dro.”
http://www.losangelesalmanac.com/topics/cities/ci93.htm
In 1781 L.A. was a settlement which came to be known as El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciúncula or The Town of Our Lady the Queen of Angels of the Little Portion although its official name was simply El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles. Now only Los Angeles.
I had to leave los angeles in 1993
The Sanford & Son theme song was written by Quincy Jones (the P. Diddy of the mid-late 1960s), and is called "The Streetbeater." Find the full-length version of the song, and you'll be pleasantly surprised to hear how damned funky it is.
The Austin Powers Theme (the one with the flute) is also a Quincy Jones tune called "Soul Bossa Nova."
That little indentation just under your nose and above your lip is your philtrum.
The little bits of plastic on the ends of your shoelaces are called aglets.
The tip of your umbrella is also known as a ferrule.
Although it contains batteries, that thing you found in your mom's underwear drawer is not called a flashlight.
snail action
Males do best by mating with as many females as possible. Females go for quality rather than quantity. In hermaphrodites, which include snails, these contradictory demands result in some rather odd behaviour. The hermaphroditic flatworm Pseudoceros bifurcus, for example, engages in 'penis fencing', attempting to give its partner a hypodermic sperm injection while avoiding being impaled and inseminated in the process.
Likewise, "snails want to get as much sperm into their mate as possible, and to be choosy about how much sperm they receive", explains Joris Koene, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Münster, Germany. Snails do not try to dodge insemination, but they have a gland, the 'bursa copulatrix', which digests more than 99% of incoming sperm.
Some worms can really hold their drink. A genetic twist of fate renders them immune to alcohol, new research reveals.
The study may explain why a small sherry sends some people slurry but leaves others sober. It may also aid the development of therapies for alcoholism.
Smoking Chimps
The St. Louis Zoo, well before it became the serious animal sanctuary it is today, was originally little more than a sordid form of entertainment, comparable to a circus. In particular, visitors could gawk at the spectacle of smoking chimpanzees. Taught to smoke by the zoo, they became addicted to the nicotine and were notorious for swiping smokes from the janitors. They became an embarrassment once smoking was no longer permitted for humans at the zoo, and the chimps were no longer presented to the public.
... are too breast-heavy to mate without assistance.
As a result, turkey farms have workers who masturbate male turkeys to ejaculation so that the females may be artificially inseminated.
I reflect on this sometimes when I'm having a bad day at work. I try to imagine what a bad day at work would be like for the Turkey Jerker.
